YOURSAY | ‘Imagine our citizens filling the graves because we cannot afford ventilators and ICU beds…’

Life-and-death in Kedah: No ICU for those with little hope of recovery

OCT: The Kedah government has money to donate to the Palestine-Israel conflict but apparently has no money to take care of its rakyat.

Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor would rather spend his limited resources to help a foreign cause than look after his own rakyat. Where is his priority?

Does the Kedah rakyat deserve such a leader to lead them? In addition, he wants to quarrel with the neighbouring state of Penang about water charges.

Et Cetera: That was fast. It has been what - a week of 4,000-plus cases?

I disagree that we have ‘enough’ ICU (intensive care unit) beds. If you have to refuse treatment to someone who is critically ill due to priority given to others, that means there are insufficient beds.

Just remember, we had months to prepare for this.

Anonymous_1591401884306.03221591400887680: Sixty-plus years of the same bunch ruling this country and a health service so weak we have to decide who lives and dies.

I am sure if all the politicians and assorted cronies donated a tiny percentage of their ill-gotten gains over the years, Malaysia could have one of the most advanced health services in the world.

BrownMacaw9225: The state politicians should carry out their duties to assist the rakyat in getting things done to make sure medical facilities are adequate.

Don’t waste your time on the Palestinian issue for now. We have a more dire situation to take care of at home. We can’t let our rakyat die.

Thunderbolt: What’s the MB doing for the poor Kedahans? He is more concerned with the Palestinian issue and fighting with Penang over the water issue.

Now when Kedah really need his leadership, he appears to place the Palestinians above his own people.

Samtan: Why fight a war overseas instead of the war at home? Because they are fighting a culture war.

For PAS, as well as Bersatu and Umno, fighting the war in Palestine will rile up their base. Fighting the Covid war at home, however, will not get anyone frothy in the mouth. Worse, it would highlight their incompetence.

This is despite that more Malaysians died of Covid last week than Palestinians killed by the Israeli bombing of Gaza.

Worried Sick: This is the beginning of the end; the country is going to the dogs.

Just imagine our citizens filling the graves because we cannot afford ventilators and ICU beds in our hospitals. Just imagine our young doctors being given the onerous task of deciding who lives and who dies.

Oh, what have we, a beautiful nation of lovely people, become of? Not many days ago, Health Minister Adham Baba was quoted as saying we “have not come to the stage yet”. See how soon we are coming to that stage.

Where has all the money gone?

2cents: The proceeds from the auctioning of an old Volvo XC60 bearing registration number VBT 8350 could be used to buy a number of ventilators.

The Wakandan: Deciding on who get the ICU beds should be on a first-come, first-serve basis, otherwise it is against medical ethic or something akin to euthanasia.

Be careful when you do this - the patient that you choose to die could be your next of kin.

Newday: This is the all-too-real impact of Covid with potential death implications for a person’s health not associated with Covid.

To those that ignore SOPs (standard operating procedures) and work out illegal ways to travel, these avoidable potential deaths are on your collective heads.

Neelofa, husband plead not guilty over SOP breach charges

BluePanther4725: Just because this couple is rich and they are celebrities, they think they can break the law and get away with it. Such blatant arrogance and irresponsibility.

These are the people who apparently have no respect for the law and expect special privileges just because they have lots of money.

Entrepreneur Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor and her husband, Muhammad Haris Mohd Ismail, are not showing a good example.

If they are found guilty, other than a heavy fine, the authorities should jail them too. I would personally boycott the Neelofa brand and her products.

BlueCottontee: I guess they have produced a letter of some sort, so the police at the roadblock gave them the green light for them to shop for carpets.

If this is the case, then the police or the couple need to clarify. If there was no roadblock, then it seems it is a double standard because the couple is not charged for crossing the state border.

RedRusa3189: Some people can be so arrogant. I hope that the court will make a good example out of them (if they are found guilty) since they appear to be seeking fame through their actions.

Their followers will mimic their actions. - Mkini
