Ex-MRB chairman to meet MACC on LGM land issue tomorrow
PETALING JAYA: Former Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) chairman Ahmad Nazlan Idris will be at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters tomorrow morning to give his statement in connection with the current controversy over alleged plans to sell and lease the board’s land parcels in Kuala Lumpur.
Details of the probe, however, remain sketchy.
“He has not made any report to MACC nor has anyone lodged reports against him. They have asked him to come over for a statement on the MRB issue,” a source told FMT.
In a statement yesterday, Ahmad Nazlan maintained that he performed his tasks with integrity during his time as chairman, adding that he was willing to be questioned by the MACC.
When contacted Nazlan confirmed that he had been summoned to give a statement but declined to elaborate.
The LGM Properties Corporation land sale and lease issue, which plantation industries and commodities minister Khairuddin Aman Razali denied had been sealed nor approved by the board, came out into the open after copies of the alleged proposal were viralled on social media.
There have been allegations that Khairuddin “supported” the lease of two plots of land at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur owned by the MRB, below the market rate.
An NGO revealed several official letters dated Dec 18, 2020 and Jan 6 and March 11 this year allegedly related to land owned by MRB. The minister has since lodged a police report over these allegations and has sent a letter of demand to the NGO which published the claims.
Ahmad Nazlan, who is also Jerantut MP, maintained that MRB’s board of directors viewed this issue seriously and had formed three task forces while taking steps to improve the running of LGM, a corporation owned by MRB.
Ahmad Nazlan has said the minister did get involved in the matter but denied that he had any connection to the scandal, saying his contract had been terminated by then.
He also said that he had recently been informed about his appointment as chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board by the minister and ministry’s secretary-general. However, he turned it down.
It is not clear whether Ahmad Nazlan was asked to leave or quit on his own volition on April 14, a year before his two-year contract ended. - FMT
