Malaysia deports US fugitive wanted for alleged child sex exploitation
Malaysian authorities have deported US fugitive Scott Barry Uchida, who is wanted in the US for charges of child sexual exploitation and other offences.
Bukit Aman CID director Abdul Jalil Hassan said the 38-year-old was arrested in Selangor on April 21 and handed to the Immigration Department to be transferred to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The fugitive was deported on Wednesday (June 23) via a US military aircraft at Subang Airport, Selangor, said Abdul Jalil in a statement last night.
“So far, there are no reports of sexual offences by the subject (Uchida) in Malaysia,” he added.
According to a statement from the FBI on Wednesday, Uchida is one of two men wanted in relation to cases of rape, unlawful imprisonment, and commercial sex exploitation against three juveniles.
The crimes were allegedly committed between the summer of 2015 and January 2018.
“A 15-year-old victim reported to a Kirkland Police Department school resource officer (in January 2018) that two men had raped, forced into prostitution, and made her recruit others. Uchida, who was determined to be one of the men, met the victim through the social media application meetme.com when she was 12 years old.
“Uchida took the victim to a Seattle apartment where he threatened violence against her and her family members and held her against her will. In March 2021, the Kirkland Police Department requested FBI Seattle’s assistance in locating Uchida, who was thought to have fled the country,” the FBI said.
It said Uchida is to face charges in King County, Seattle in Washington State, US.
Abdul Jalil said Uchida was able to enter Malaysia because he was only wanted in the US and no Interpol Red Notice was issued against him.
Police from Bukit Aman CID’s Special Investigation Division executed the arrest upon receiving a request from the FBI for help. - Mkini
