PKR logo is brand for reform, says party man

A PKR insider says Pakatan Harapan parties should use the party’s logo for the upcoming polls.

PETALING JAYA: A PKR insider has cited his party’s identification with the struggle for reform as a reason Pakatan Harapan parties should agree to use the PKR logo for the next general election.

Commenting on statements from DAP opposing the proposal PKR Youth made last weekend, the source said: “The PKR flag is a brand that stands for reforms and that’s what the people want now.”

He said using the PH flag could turn out to be strategically wrong because many rural voters might not be familiar with it.

He noted that the colours of the PH and Bersatu flags are similar.

“Everyone needs to understand what works and what doesn’t,” he said.

According to a DAP leader, the PH presidential council will discuss the matter at its next meeting.

He told FMT he supported the use of the PH flag since the coalition was now a registered organisation.

“We should start using a flag that represents all of us. We need to stand united on this,” he said.

Azmi Hassan.

For the last general election, the then unregistered coalition used PKR’s flag to successfully convince voters to abandon the long-ruling Barisan Nasional.

Political analyst Azmi Hassan said DAP had the right to be cautious after speculation that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was in discussions with Umno to form a government.

Furthermore, he told FMT, DAP might be concerned with avoiding confusion over candidates.

“In GE14, it was difficult to tell who the PKR, DAP and Amanah candidates were because all contested under the PKR logo,” he said.

Awang Azman Pawi.

He also said it was understandable for Anwar to be in talks with Umno as it might boost his chances of forming a unity government that would include all PH parties and might result in a strong administration.

“Anwar may not be able to say exactly what is happening because there are matters still being discussed,” he added.

Another analyst, Awang Azman Pawi, said he believed DAP was worried about losing dominance and popularity if the PKR flag was used in the coming election.

“DAP would rather have a flag that is neutral,” he said. - FMT
