Aidiladha prayers, animal sacrifices allowed; states to determine SOP
Mosques in all states under Phase 1 or Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan will be permitted to carry out Aidiladha prayers and animal sacrificial rituals with adherence to Covid-19 prevention social distancing measures.
The National Security Council (NSC), in its updated standard operating procedures (SOP) for the Aidiladha celebration on July 20, however, said mosques are not allowed to hold any feast after the prayers.
House-to-house visits, open houses, and visits to grave sites are also not allowed in all states.
The NSC said the permission is also subject to further restrictions set by state religious authorities in charge of mosques' administrations, including on the number of permitted congregants.
One metre apart rule
All congregants must adhere to the one metre apart rule, including during prayers, while any physical contact will not be permitted.
In terms of Covid-19 prevention measures, the SOP stated that all mosques are required to set up a counter at their entrance to record body temperature, attendance and provide hand sanitiser.
Mask wearing is mandatory and only congregants who are not showing any symptoms will be permitted entry.
All congregants are required to perform their ablution at home but are allowed to renew it at the mosque if necessary.
The SOP also requires frequent sanitisation of the prayer hall and surrounding areas including toilet stalls and the ablution area.
Several state religious authorities had, ahead of the Aidiladha celebration, announced their SOP for mosques, also applicable to Friday prayers and the daily five-times-a-day prayers.
In Malacca, the number of congregants allowed, depending on the size of the mosque, ranged from three people to 500 people in at least seven mosques.
