‘Perak Man’ and meteor crater to ‘sell’ Lenggong
IPOH: The “Perak Man”, a meteorite impact crater and dust from the Mount Toba volcano eruption in Sumatra will be highlighted as ecotourism products to promote Lenggong as a national geopark area, said energy and natural resources minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
He also said the geology of the area and cultural diversity of the local community would continue to be promoted as an archaeological study site.
“Billboards and information panels are being designed and will be placed at strategic locations around the Lenggong Valley to promote and introduce it as a national geopark area.
“All the facilities are specifically for tourists who want to explore the uniqueness of nature, geological diversity, archaeology and culture in the Lenggong Valley,” the Lenggong MP said today.
He said the aim to develop Lenggong Valley as the second national geopark in the state after the Kinta Valley Geopark was to ensure sustainable physical development and to generate income for local citizens via ecotourism activities.
Earlier, it was reported that the energy and natural resources ministry was confident that once Lenggong Geopark is declared as the second national geopark site in Perak, this would spur ecotourism at the state and national levels.
As such, Shamsul Anuar said scientific research was being conducted by experts from the department of minerals and geoscience Malaysia (JMG) and global archaeological research centre (PPAG) of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
He added the ministry is also targeting the valley to be declared as a Global Geopark by Unesco by 2023. - FMT
