King: Be guided by spirit of Hijrah in battling pandemic

 

PUTRAJAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah called on all Malaysians to be guided by the spirit of the Hijrah in battling the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his message in conjunction with Maal Hijrah today, His Majesty urged Malaysians to comply with the four-phase National Recovery Plan (NRP), which is a strategy to exit from the clutches of the pandemic.

At a hybrid celebration at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque here, Sultan Abdullah said the Hijrah (migration) had given a clear guide on the meaning of sacrifice and success.

In conjunction with this year’s Maal Hijrah theme – Manhaj Rabbani Umat Berkualiti – His Majesty called on Malaysians to rise together to strengthen unity, maintain health and adhere to the standard operating procedures for the sake of the country.

“I am confident that the country will emerge successfully from any crisis if everyone remains united and practises the admirable qualities of Prophet Muhammad,” Sultan Abdullah said.

His Majesty said among the noble qualities of the Prophet Muhammad that should be emulated is to be truthful in all words and deeds, honest, trustworthy and also wise in conveying the message.

The Sirah of the Prophet Muhammad clearly demonstrates that he was a highly ethical leader with noble traits, encompassing integrity, honesty and trust, that he was given the title of “Al-Amin”.

In terms of administration and decision-making, the Prophet Muhammad practised an open attitude and always listened to the thoughts of the people through the concept of shura (consultation).

“Because of that, Prophet Muhammad always opens space to conduct meetings, as well as to discuss and listen to views in every matter related to the welfare and well-being of the ummah,” he said.

The Prophet Muhammad’s traits which include tawaduk (humility) and always glorify the greatness of Allah, make him a leader who is not influenced by greed that can invite symptoms of corruption, deceit and selfishness, with worldly materials such as rank, wealth and position.

In Shah Alam, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah called on Muslims to get rid of the negative traits in themselves.

His Royal Highness said they should also refrain from posting on social media messages smacking of jealousy and slander.

These traits can destroy unity among the ummah and have a negative impact on future generations, the Ruler said in a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Selangor Royal Office.

Sultan Sharafuddin advised Muslims to emulate the admirable qualities of Prophet Muhammad.

“Stay away from things which can lead to wrongful and contemptible acts such as lying, treachery, concealing the truth and spreading fake news, which are the traits of hypocrites,” he said in the post.

Sultan Sharafuddin and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, extended Maal Hijrah wishes and called on Muslims, especially in Selangor, to renew their resolve and determination by changing the way of thinking and acting towards achieving excellence in life.

“I hope Maal Hijrah this time is appreciated and celebrated with the awareness and understanding that it is important for the noble values in Islam to be translated into every aspect of life.

“Let us all pray to Allah that all Muslims in our country will always be blessed, kept away from disease outbreaks and live in an atmosphere of peace, prosperity and well-being,” he said.

Separately, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin expressed hope that the arrival of the Islamic new year would endow Muslims with faith and patience to continue their efforts in the fight against Covid-19 through the NRP actively being implemented by the government.

“I pray that this test will be able to make us Muslims more pious and have strong resilience and self-assertiveness,” he said when delivering his speech at the national-level Maal Hijrah 2021/1443 celebration at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque.

Muhyiddin also hoped that the Maal Hijrah celebration could continue to be appreciated and enlivened by Muslims in the country even though everyone was still in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic battle.

He said the Maal Hijrah celebration held today was a reflection of the government’s commitment so that the Islamic faith would continue to be preserved and dignified in line with its position as the highly revered religion of the Federation.

Former National Mosque Grand Imam Tan Sri Syaikh Ismail Muhammad has been named the recipient of the National Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1443H/2021 award.

Saudi Arabia Royal Council Advisor Dr Muhammad Abdulkarim Al-Issa was selected as the recipient of the International Tokoh Maal Hijrah award.

Syaikh Ismail and Dr Muhammad Abdulkarim both received a cash prize, a medal and a certificate. — Bernama
