Muhyiddin to make a special announcement on Monday?

PETALING JAYA: Muhyiddin Yassin is speculated to make an important announcement about his status as prime minister and the Perikatan Nasional government on Monday.

Quoting senior aides to two ministers, Berita Harian reported that the special announcement would be made after an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

He will also have a brief meeting with his Cabinet.

The aide also revealed that Muhyiddin is expected to meet with Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Armed Forces chief Affendi Buang as well as senior government officers.

“Maybe in the afternoon,” the aide was quoted by the Malay daily on the time when Muhyiddin is expected to address the nation.

Meanwhile, Sin Chew also reported that Muhyiddin would meet the King on Monday at noon.

Quoting sources from Bersatu, the Chinese daily reported it was linked to his resignation.

Earlier today, FMT reported that a series of U-turns by Umno MPs aligned to the present administration appeared to be drawing the curtains on Muhyiddin’s tenure as the country’s eighth prime minister.

Speaking to FMT, several Umno and Bersatu sources said they were expecting Muhyiddin to announce his resignation soon.

“Bersatu members advised him not to resign,” they said.

Muhyiddin’s circumstances looked bleak yesterday when opposition parties and Umno spurned his proposal for reforms and a more inclusive administration in exchange for support in September’s parliamentary vote of confidence.

MPs and ministers from Umno as well as PAS were reportedly caught off guard by the overtures and the possibility of PN working with DAP and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Muhyiddin’s position as prime minister was thrown into doubt since Umno decided to retract support for his administration earlier this month, with the party and the opposition demanding his resignation. - FMT
