Covid-19 deaths (Sept 25): Another 250 fatalities raise toll to 24,931

 

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry's Github data repository reported a total of 250 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday, bringing the cumulative death toll to 24,931.

It is likely the death toll in Malaysia will breach the 25,000 mark tomorrow. The country has the highest Covid-19 deaths per capita in Asia.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 19.6 percent or 49 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 65, making up 26 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Sabah (43), Johor (41), Penang (20), Sarawak (16), Kelantan (14), Perak (14), Pahang (9), Kedah (6), Terengganu (6), Kuala Lumpur (6), Negeri Sembilan (4), Malacca (3) and Perlis (3).

No new deaths were reported in Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 170 out of the 250 reported deaths happened in the last seven days of which nine were from yesterday.

The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.

An average of 337 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 313, indicating a downtrend.

To date, 8,276 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month, making September the deadliest month since the start of the pandemic last year.

A total of 7,642 Covid-19 deaths were reported in August, 3,858 in July, 2,380 in June and 1,302 in May.

As of yesterday, there were 195,837 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 11.5 percent from the 221,339 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 25.9 percent from 264,295.

Previously, the Health Ministry released deaths statistics together with the number of new Covid-19 cases in the evening. This had since changed.

Deaths statistics are now released after midnight. Malaysiakini reports them in the morning.
