We don’t want 4 Melaka reps to join party, says Kedah PKR Youth
PETALING JAYA: Kedah PKR Youth said they were against the four assemblymen who had a hand in the collapse of the Melaka government joining the party, following reports the quartet wanted to contest the state polls under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) banner.
The wing’s chief Mohammed Firdaus Johari said he was confident that such a sentiment was shared by the public and the coalition’s supporters.
The four, he said, should not be allowed to join PKR, whether they were invited or had applied to do so.
“Even on the grounds that it is a political strategy, it (the four joining PKR) must be opposed,” he said in a statement tonight.
It was reported previously that Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu), along with Idris Haron (Sungai Udang), Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas), and Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), wanted to contest under PH in the Melaka state election on Nov 20.
They had also met opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and other coalition leaders to discuss the matter.
Yesterday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the party would object to Norhizam contesting under the PH banner. However, he chose not to comment on the prospects of Idris, Effandi and Nor Azman contesting under PH.
On Oct 5, Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri Mohd Ali Rustam agreed to dissolve the state assembly following the retraction of support for the state government and chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali by the four state assemblymen.
Idris and Nor Azman were subsequently sacked by Umno, while Noor Effandi received his walking papers from Bersatu.
Nor Azman later said that he and Idris received offers to join PH. - FMT
