Muhyiddin telling stale stories, says Tok Mat

Mohamad Hasan says Muhyiddin Yassin worked to bring down a stable government in Melaka in GE14.

AYER KEROH: A top Barisan Nasional (BN) leader has sought to play down the threat it faces from Bersatu in the Melaka polls, saying voters were now wise to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) lynchpin.

Aiming his venom at Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan said that the former prime minister worked with DAP, PKR and Amanah to bring down a stable state government in the last general election.

He said he was confident voters would remember that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration, which Bersatu was a part of, did nothing in its 22 months in power except add to the country’s debts and that it cancelled the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project.

He noted that Muhyiddin did not revive the project when he became prime minister.

Commenting on Muhyiddin’s criticism of BN, such as his constant raising of the 1MDB issue and his references to Umno leaders on trial for corruption, Mohamad said these were “stale” narratives.

“What does the Melaka polls have to do with 1MDB?” he said. “Actually, PN doesn’t have any ammunition left to attack Umno. It’s always the same old thing and the people are sick of these stories they’ve been hearing since GE14.”

He also said PN appeared unable to put up a united front, as seen in its failure to name its candidate for chief minister.

“We’re three days away from polling, it still hasn’t named its CM candidate. How is it going to form the government?”

He added that BN had presented voters with a “practical manifesto” and a “well-liked” CM candidate in incumbent Sulaiman Md Ali.

“The people are tired of politicking,” he said. “They want to hear what we can do and plan to do should we come to power.” - FMT
