‘Suara Untuk Semua’ - Bersih launches media campaign platform for Malacca polls
MALACCA POLLS | Bersih, together with three selected media partners, have launched a special platform dedicated to 112 candidates contesting in the ongoing Malacca state elections.
Bersih in a statement said the "Suara Untuk Semua" initiative in partnership with Sin Chew Daily, Sinar Harian and Astro Awani was launched following restrictions imposed on all forms of physical public engagements throughout the campaign period which began today.
The initiative will comprise three components - "Suara Calon" (for candidates), Party Political Broadcast (for parties and Independent candidates to share their manifestos), and a proposed dialogue between Malacca chief minister candidates.
Bersih said all 112 candidates are welcome to record personal videos about themselves and introduce their policies, for publication on print, online and digital platforms, aside from opportunities to be interviewed by the media outlets.
"At a time when candidates and election machinery are faced with extraordinary restrictions under new norms of campaigning, we are confident this initiative will provide an opportunity for each candidate to widely publicise their campaign to voters," said Bersih.
"We are confident this effort will help to promote the spirit of a democratic election, whereby each candidate should have a dynamic platform to reach out to the voters.
"Voters, on the other hand, must be given as much information as possible to enable them to make the right choice and vote for their chosen candidate," said the electoral watchdog.
As part of the initiative, Bersih said a micro-site where voters can access the videos, to be uploaded on YouTube, will be accessible from its main website.
It said all candidates are invited to submit their videos through Telegram (t.me/bersih2_0) or e-mail (media@bersih.org).
The Malacca state election will be held amid strict restrictions on all forms of physical gatherings, limiting candidates the opportunity to reach out to voters in their constituency.
Nominations closed today with a total of 112 candidates in 28 seats, representing BN, Perikatan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan, Putra and Independents. - Mkini
