Watchdog wants Edisi Siasat's 'exposé' probed thoroughly
Graft watchdog Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Center) has urged the authorities to ensure a thorough and independent investigation on the claims made by so-called whistleblower known as "Edisi Siasat".
In a statement today, C4 Center said claims made by Edisi Siasat are "explosive" and "shocking", implicating top officers in the MACC and the police.
C4 Center said Edisi Siasat had chronicled high-level corruption which, if true, would endanger national security.
"It bears reminding that former inspector-general of police, Hamid Bador, had warned of cartels and high levels of corruption within the police force upon his retirement late last year.
"The current IGP has uttered little to nothing on pursuing any sort of investigations on such claims. No one has since been named or charged with abuse of power and corruption and the impunity continues," said C4 Center.
Edisi Siasat refers to a Twitter account that has been active since September, often offering documents which it claims were proof of corruption among top MACC and police personnel.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told the Dewan Rakyat last week that the authorities were looking into the claims but could not offer details.
However, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani today brushed off Edisi Siasat's claims as "fabrications".
According to Bernama, Acryl Sani said 13 investigation papers have been opened against Edisi Siasat and the police were trying to establish the people behind it.
He said allegations made by Edisi Siasat against the police were being investigated by the federal police Integrity and Standards Compliance Department for verification. - Mkini
