Police to quiz Najib under Amla again today

Najib Abdul Razak is expected to return to Menara 238 Jalan Tun Razak today to continue having his statement recorded by police, according to a source from the anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing prevention unit (Amla unit).

On Monday, the former prime minister had his statementrecorded for an hour under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla).

"Yes, he will come again tomorrow to resume the investigation from Monday," said the source.

Another source close to the Pekan MP said that in Monday's round of questioning, officers grilled the former premier for clarifications on a number of financial transactions, with some stretching as far back as 2011.

"There were questions on transactions for events which happened in 2011. Why did the police want to ask about cheques related to events in 2011? Those have nothing to do with 1MDB.

"When we checked later, we found out some of the cheques were given to companies which provided tents and catering for an Umno event in Pekan in that year," the source said.

Earlier this month, Najib was charged with three counts of money laundering under Amla, along with four other amended charges, over the RM42 million from former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International found in his personal bank account.

The three deposits – amounting to RM27 million, RM5 million and RM10 million respectively – were found to have been wired into his AmIslamic Bank account between Dec 26, 2014, and Feb 10, 2015.

No plea was recorded.

Earlier, it was reported that some 16 items – including jewellery, cash and luxury handbags – confiscated from six properties linked to Najib were being probed under Amla.
