‘JHO LOW ATTENDED 1MDB BOARD MEETING – BUT NAJIB ORDERED THIS FACT TO BE DELETED’: AUDITOR-GENERAL NAMES SHUKRY SALLEH, ALI HAMSA, AMBRIN BUANG, ARUL KANDA – ALL IMPLICATED IN NAJIB’S GROSS ABUSE OF POWER

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Audit Department Malaysia (JANM) confirmed that controversial businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low attended a 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) board of directors meeting.

However, this fact was asked to be dropped on the orders of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak through his principal private secretary then and it was carried out through the omission of several paragraphs in the final 1MDB audit report, a statement by JANM said yesterday said.

Two notable facts were dropped from the report, about the status of the 1MDB financial account and the presence of Jho Low at the 1MDB board of directors meeting.

Several top former civil service personalities including the former principal private secretary of the prime minister Tan Sri Shukry Salleh, former Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, and former Auditor General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang were named in the statement issued by JANM.

It also named former 1MDB president and chief executive officer Arul Kanda who has the capacity to make important decisions with regard the omission of facts in the 1MDB audit report.

The statement said on Feb 20, 2016, Shukry asked the department to table the 1MDB final audit report to the prime minister for further discussion and submission to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

However, the department claimed that the initial PAC meeting on Feb 24, 2016 was postponed to March 4 and 7, 2016 to give time to JANM to make changes and drop certain facts.

The final 1MDB audit report containing the omissions was then tabled to the PAC on March 4 and 7, 2016.

On Feb 22, 2016, Najib through Shukry directed two paragraphs to be dropped from the final report.

According to the statement, the reason given to Shukry to drop the paragraphs was to allow the authorities to investigate.

JANM classified 1MDB as a ‘crisis’ on Feb 23, 2016.

At a meeting on Feb 24, 2016 attended by Ali Hamsa, Shukry, Ambrin and Arul Kanda, together with representatives from the Attorney General’s Chambers and Finance Ministry, JANM claimed several more paragraphs and excerpts were asked to be amended and dropped.

The 1MDB audit team was directed by Ali Hamsa to attend a meeting at his office with Arul Kanda to discuss further information with regard the final 1MDB audit report on Feb 25, 2016.

The JANM statement said Shukry, on Najib’s direction, ordered thr former Auditor General to drop one paragraph showing that Jho Low attended the 1MDB board of directors meeting.

Shukry claimed the omissions were important and had to be carried out to ensure the opposition did not manipulate the issue.

The final audit report with the amendments and omissions were submitted to Ali Hamsa for further action on Feb 28, 2016.

On March 1, 2016, Ali Hamsa once again called the audit team to his office to discuss the document.

According to JANM, only two individuals were present, Arul Kanda and Ali Hamsa, during the session.

Both of them reportedly perused the final document with the omissions and/or amendments.

On March 2, 2016, the final 1MDB audit report was printed and on the next day two copies were given by Ali Hamsa to Shukry.

Ambrin tabled the audit report to the PAC on March 4 and 7, 2016.

JANM said the original 1MDB final report without omissions and amendments had been given to the Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission and the police for further action.
