The USDA-FSIS are investigating a multi-state outbreak of Listeria infections linked to pork products produced by a Houston manufacturer, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced this week.

Four people have been hospitalized after eating Vietnamese pork rolls made by Long Phung Food Products in Houston Texas, according to CNN. The anchovy-marinated pork patty rolls, known as Chả lụa or giò lụawere manufactured between May 21 and November 16 and labeled with establishment number “EST. 13561.” As of now, no deaths have been reported.

Listeria is the third leading cause of death from food poisoning in the United States. According to the CDC, “Listeriosis is a serious infection usually caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. An estimated 1,600 people get listeriosis each year, and about 260 die. The infection is most likely to sicken pregnant women and their newborns, adults aged 65 or older, and people with weakened immune systems.”

Symptoms typically occur four weeks of infection, but could take up to 70 days to appear. Typical symptoms include headache, stiff neck, fever, muscle pain, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions.

The United States Department of Agriculture listed the following products which are subject to recall:

  • 16-oz. plastic vacuum packed packages containing a single marinated roll of “Long Phung 1988 GIO LUA” VIETNAMESE BRAND COOKED PORK PATTY ROLL ANCHOVY FLAVORED FISH SAUCE ADDED.
