At Bersatu AGM, delegate calls for Dr M to stay PM until GE15
BERSATU AGM | A motion to retain Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister for a full term has been raised by a delegate at the Bersatu annual general assembly in Putrajaya.
Sources present during today's closed-door debate on the Bersatu chairperson's policy speech told Malaysiakini that the proposal was raised by Kelantan delegate and Bachok division chief Zulkifli Zakaria.
"The proposal was made by the Kelantan delegate. It was raised by the seniors," said one source.
The source added that the retention of Mahathir was raised on the first day of the AGM and was debated further today.
When met, Bersatu supreme council member Zahid Md Arip, who is also the prime minister's political secretary, merely laughed and said that the party will issue an official statement at a later time.
Another supreme council member, however, told Malaysiakini on condition of anonymity that Bersatu remains committed to Pakatan Harapan's transition plan.
"This has been stated and oft-repeated clearly by Mahathir and top leaders of Bersatu," he said.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim facilitated his expected appointment as Mahathir successor through the Port Dickson by-election in October.
Anwar has repeatedly said he is in no rush to succeed Mahathir, and would focus on assisting the government to implement various parliamentary reforms. - Mkini
