Malaysian Company Invents Sticker That Keeps Fruit Fresh for Up to 2 Weeks

A Malaysian firm has unlocked the secret of a longer shelf life for fruits with the use of a simple sticker.

The company, called Stixfresh, has reportedly developed a sticker that enables fruits to stay fresh for 14 days more while keeping them firm, sweet and juicy, reports Mashable.

The stickers, which are made with 100% organic materials, are easy to apply and would work on most fruits such as apples, pears, avocados, dragon fruits, kiwis, mangos, oranges and other citrus fruits.

The main components that make the stickers work are sodium chloride and beeswax. It reportedly reduces the ripening process by removing Ethylene, the ripening hormone found in fruits. This process also prevents molds from developing on the fruits.

Stixfresh founder Zhafri Zainudin said that prior to creating the company, he had one goal: “Maybe I can’t stop nature, but could I slow it down?”

It took Zainudin four years to work on the idea, develop a product and eventually establish the company with the help of his co-founders Moody Soliman and Steve Hulteng.

After successfully doing business in Malaysia for a few years now, Stixfresh recently expanded to the United States, opening their first U.S. office last month.

Aside from penetrating the western market, Stixfresh is looking to grow their business by getting their stickers on fruits sold all around Asia. They are also planning to create a sticker that works on berries and vegetables in the near future.
