Xiaomi Teases Epic Foldable Smartphone That Can Become a Tablet

Xiaomi, one of China’s premier phone companies, released a video teasing their latest smartphone — a foldable smartphone and tablet device.

On Weibo, Xiaomi co-founder and president Lin Bin posted a teaser video of their device which can fold on both sides to become a compact smartphone or unfold into a tablet.

Bin noted in his post that this is just an engineering model, according to The Verge.

While this model still has yet to be perfected into a commercial product, Bin says the device has mastered “a series of technical problems such as flexible folding screen technology, four-wheel drive folding shaft technology, flexible cover technology, and MIUI adaptation.” 

Bin also asked for user feedback on possible names for the phone, teasing the names Mi Dual Flex and Mi MIX Flex, according to Mashable.

 

No official date for a finished product has been announced. Xiaomi’s device now joins in the foldable smartphone race along with prototype devices from Samsung, Chinese company Royole, and rumored devices from Huawei and Lenovo.
