SF Woman Allegedly Poses as a Walgreens Pharmacist For Over 10 Years, Handling 700,000 Prescriptions

A woman from the San Francisco Bay Area, California is being accused of posing as a pharmacist and handing out more than 700,000 prescriptions.

The woman, identified as Kim Thien Le, claimed she attended Creighton University and provided her pharmacist license number during her interview with the Board of Pharmacy, according to KPIX5.

 

However, upon checking records, it was revealed that Le never graduated from the university and that the numbers she provided belong to two other pharmacists with similar names.

“Me and my son would be very grateful if you could just forget about this,” she reportedly told the board during her questioning.

In a document filed by the board, Le allegedly handled 745,000 prescriptions and vaccinations without any type of license during her job as a pharmacist and pharmacy manager for over a decade, Fox News reported.

Over 100,000 of the prescriptions she handled allegedly involved controlled substances.

Le was employed at three different branches of Walgreens — in San Jose, Milpitas, and Fremont — since 2006. In 2017, she was fired, a spokesman from the company said.

“This individual is no longer employed by Walgreens, and has not been since October 2017,” the spokesman told KTVU. “Upon learning of this issue, we undertook a re-verification of the licenses of all our pharmacists nationwide to ensure that his was an isolated incident.”

The Board is also looking to revoke Walgreen’s pharmacy license from the stores Le used to work.

Some customers expressed their shock.

“I’m just shocked beyond belief that this would happen here at Walgreens, a place that we trust,” customer Sandra Cervantez told KPIX5. “It really makes me suspect of how we’re checking pharmacists’ backgrounds.”

“Walgreens should’ve done a better job in screening,” another customer, Monte Williams, said.

The case is still under investigation.
