Talk of new appointments brewing in Selangor

KLANG: With the confirmation by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari that he is fully behind PKR and its leadership, all appears to be well in the state.

However, party insiders claim the nation’s richest state is not without its political undercurrents after the recent change of the Federal Government, given that Amirudin is a protege of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

It is said three of the four PKR state executive councillors and 10 of the 19 elected representatives from the party in the state are allegedly Azmin’s “people”.

The PKR insiders said there were efforts by loyalists of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to remove Amirudin as well as the three exco members from the state administration.

An insider also claimed Amirudin may be removing two of the three exco members from the state executive councillor line-up due to alleged pressure on him.

The source said that a lot of changes will be made to the political appointments at the state secretariat, state government agencies and government-linked companies political appointments.

The state legislative assembly currently has 19 PKR assemblymen, 16 from DAP, Amanah (eight), Bersatu (six), Barisan Nasional (five), PAS (one) and one independent assemblyman.

Last week also saw elected representatives linked to Azmin, such as Sementa assemblyman and Kapar division chief Dr Daroyah Alwi, reiterating their support for the party and its leadership.

Early last week, some 200 grassroots members in the Tanjung Karang PKR division bade farewell to the party claiming that they have lost confidence in Anwar.

This was followed by a retaliation of sorts by the Kota Raja division reaffirming their loyalty to PKR and its top leadership.

The Kota Raja division chief is Sentosa assemblyman Gunaraj George while its deputy is Sungai Kandis assemblyman Zawawi Mughni.

PKR veteran and Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said extensive investigations are currently under way to identify those who had caused damage to the party as well as played a role in Pakatan Harapan’s fall at the federal level.

“Everyone can reaffirm their loyalty to the party and its leadership, but the investigations will not stop.’’

He added investigations had been initiated soon after Azmin, former party vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin and Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham were sacked from the party.

Meanwhile, Port Klang assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri assured the people that all is well in Selangor.

“We are not facing any issues here and the state government is stable.

“We are also steadfast in our intent to honour the mandate given to us by the people in the previous general election,” said Azmizam, who is an Azmin supporter. -Star
