Bersatu 6 want action on those behind May 11 'plot' against Dr M and son

Malaysiakini

Six Bersatu leaders and members have written to the party's disciplinary board urging it to investigate and act against those who called for a supreme council meeting to be held on May 11.
The meeting, which was subsequently aborted, was scheduled to be held in the absence of Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir.
According to the letters sighted by Malaysiakini, the six wanted action to be taken against those who instructed for the meeting, which was described as invalid and in violation of Bersatu's constitution.
"The meeting was invalid as it deliberately left out the chairperson and deputy president who, according to the constitution, must attend as the pair are part of the supreme council,” read the letter penned by Kedah Bersatu deputy chief Anuar Abdul Hamid dated today (May 12).
He also pointed out that the Registrar of Societies (ROS) barred all organisations from holding activities until June 30 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Anuar demanded action to be taken against organising secretary Capt (R) Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya, whom he accused of acting beyond his powers in issuing a notice on May 10 with regard to the meeting.
When contacted, Anuar confirmed that he submitted the written complaint to the disciplinary board.
"It is strange that you do not invite the chairperson and deputy president to attend the meeting. There must be an agenda behind the meeting," he told Malaysiakini.
Puchong Bersatu division acting chief Sarafdeen Abdul Hamid also confirmed filing a complaint.
"Yes, that was from me,” he told Malaysiakini.
“Suhaimi has no authority to send the notice (calling for the meeting)," he added.

Suhaimi: I acted according to party constitution
Meanwhile, Suhaimi told Malaysiakini that he was not aware of the complaints lodged against him but defended his action to issue the notice.
"I am confident that I acted according to the party constitution. I know the boundaries and my duties," he added.
Without mentioning names or elaborating, Suhaimi said he was instructed by those in the top echelon to issue the notice and that Bersatu received the green light to hold the May 11 meeting.
"Of course, we would apply for an approval if needed (before any) activity is held. We only issued the notice after securing the approval,” he added.
The supreme council meeting was postponed following media reports of a plot against Mahathir and Mukhriz, which could even see the father and son pair being axed from Bersatu.
Bersatu is split between party president Muhyiddin Yassin's faction and Mahathir's faction.
Muhyiddin's faction had wanted to act against Mahathir and Mukhriz based on their open criticism against the former's decision to abandon Pakatan Harapan and form an alliance with Umno, PAS and others. - Mkini
