YOURSAY | Kudos to Karupaiya for rejecting 'PN offer'

PKR MP fears bag of money will be planted in car after rejecting 'PN offer'

Siva1967: There is a saying “Only the straight trees get chopped first”.

As long as one remains steadfast in his/her beliefs and principles, one has nothing to fear, even it means one has to pay for that belief with his/her life.

There are very few people left in this world who hold true to that principle because many have left this world without receiving their well-deserved credit and many have succumbed to the pressures of the “dark side” and embraced the “can’t beat them, join them” bandwagon.

Politicians the world over are not known to have principles and in Malaysia, the number is high and growing each day, thanks to one strongman who manipulated the political landscape of this country and turned this honourable vocation into a dishonourable and money-making endeavour. In his quest to remain in power, an unheard-of monster was allowed to slip into the system - money politics.

Now this monster has grown so big that the dark side uses this to remain in power. The worst thing is that such a lack of good behaviour is blatantly carried out, without shame or remorse.

Sincerity and righteousness have all taken a back seat and some even have the audacity to criticise and ridicule those who do not subscribe to the prescription of the dark side and label them as stupid and unpractical. Because, for these advocates of the dark side, money rules their world and for a former PM, cash is king.

As for Padang Serai MP M Karupaiya, those of us who walk the straight line and remain as the straight tree in the woods, we salute your courageous revelation of the dirty tactics employed by certain agent provocateurs of the state.

Now that you have made your stand that you want to remain the straight tree in the woods, all the axes will be sharpened to be thrown at you and those close to you.

As you rightly said, you chose to “hormat” (respect) your voters and that is why you have earned the title YB - Yang Berhormat.

I like to end by sharing this famous Malay saying - ‘Harimau mati tinggalkan belang; gajah mati tinggalkan gading; manusia mati tinggalkan nama” (dead tiger leaves its stripes; dead elephant leaves its ivory; dead person leaves his/her name).

In our books, you, Mr Karupaiya, are as strong as the gajah and as courageous as the harimau. We, the rakyat, are with you.

EmEmKay: My utmost respect and gratitude to Karupaiya and three other MPs for not hopping over to Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Anyway, please be careful because PN is desperate and may plant "things" to trap you all. Frankly, PN is in overdrive politicking instead of governing the country, so much so investors and FDIs (foreign direct investments) are going to our neighbours.

Malaysia Bharu: Considering the current frogging season with many political sickos leaping to PN, Karupaiya's fears are valid and he should be very afraid for himself and his family.

Those that have targeted him may have some ammunition that could be manipulated against or are prejudicial to the MP.

It is all the more troubling when the caller, “Azhar”, allegedly told him that “Bersatu wanted to make an offer to support (Prime Minister) Muhyiddin Yassin”, a party that in effect commands the highest number of traitors and defectors in the ruling coalition.

Under the circumstances, it is advisable for Karupaiya to lodge a police report to cover whatever eventualities may be in store.

Headhunter: All politicians who are approached should record their conversations when they are enticed to cross over. The evidence will help them when they are harassed by the authorities later on.

Better still, put the evidence on video and if possible, get someone reliable as a witness. Inform your party immediately if you are approached by their agents.

With all the shenanigans going on to prop up the backdoor government, the chance of being entrapped is very real. Don't give pathetic excuses later that you were not aware of being turned over.

Mosquitobrain: The PN government will continue to fish opposition lawmakers with millions of ringgit, positions and projects to jump ship and shore up its slim majority.

In the past weeks, we have witnessed a number of opposition lawmakers jumping ship and pledging to support PN. Aren't all these hopping and enticements by PN not amounting to bribery and corruption?

It is very disturbing that the MACC, which claims to act without fear or favour, is playing deaf, dumb and blind despite the uproar among opposition leaders and the public.

If this party hopping becomes a norm, then the ruling government might as well forgo election, forget about democracy, save our resources and turn the country into a dictatorship.

The Wakandan: There is some truth in what Karupaiya says. Not that we were there with him to hear it, but it is consistent with the enticement for frogs.

The reality on the ground may be, seemingly, like a fairy tale but that’s how it is. If we recall prior to the last Sabah state election, many state assemblypersons defected and the stories that went around were familiar.

If it is not a kind of modus operandi, what else could it be? What was offered to Karupaiya is peanuts compared to those in Sabah. Perhaps they thought Karupaiya is a small fry who is likely to bite the bait.

MPs should report all of these to the police. And make it public; that is for their protection too.

Anon25: Indeed, the police should track the callers from phone records and the recorded conversations - both to verify what the MP is saying as well as to prepare for a major sweep. That said, it could also be the work of crackpots.

This frogging behaviour was apparently encouraged by Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he was in power, when he claimed that it was the right of the MP to do so because it was "freedom of association".

Harimau_Arif: After reading countless news of frogs jumping all over Malaysia, it’s refreshing to wake up with news of opposition MPs who refused to be bought.

Kudos to Karupaiya. We need more MPs like you as you give hope to Malaysia.

Shibboleth: Yes, thankfully, there are few good men left. My respect to all the DAP and Amanah MPs for their unwavering support for their respective parties, and not compromising on principles and ideology. - Mkini
