Retiree fined RM4,000 for going to market while wearing pink bracelet

A 73-year-old retiree was handed a RM4,000 compound fine for violating standard operating procedure (SOP) when he was spotted at the Sumayyah public market in Tumpat, Kelantan, yesterday, while wearing a pink bracelet and supposedly under home quarantine.

Tumpat district police chief Ab Rashid Mat Daud said the man came to the market at 10.45am before being arrested by the authorities.

“The man deliberately came to the Sumayah public market in Bandar Baru Tumpat, while he was still wearing a pink bracelet.

"It is clear that the man has violated the movement control order (MCO) SOP. He is supposed to be undergoing surveillance at home," he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.

Earlier, a picture was posted on social media of the senior citizen wearing a pink bracelet while shopping at Pasar Sumayyah.

"This case will be investigated under Section 15 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (APPPB) 1988," said Rashid.

Yesterday, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reported that the largest of 12 Aidilfitri clusters is the Kepulauan Tumpat cluster in Kelantan, where 184 people have tested positive out of 1,451 people screened.

The cluster was first detected on May 22. - Mkini
