Shameless! - DAP rep blasts MCA for holding on to Penang port post

DAP Pulau Tikus assemblyperson Chris Lee (above) today hit out at MCA over their leadership of the Penang Port Commission (PPC), after recent pictures of a sinking ferry sparked a row between leaders of the two parties.

In a statement this morning, Lee drew attention to the recent controversy over a sinking ferry and said that MCA was “shameless” for taking leadership of the commission despite having no parliamentary nor state seat in Penang.

“The latest sinking of the Penang iconic ferries have shown that their leadership of the PPC has been a total failure,” Lee claimed, referring to recent images of a sinking ferry widely circulated on social media.

“Penangites hold their heritage close to their hearts and despite their pleas for the iconic ferries to be retained or to be handed over to the management of the Penang state government, they have gone ahead to phase them out,” Lee added in his statement.

The DAP Bukit Bendera parliamentary liaison committee secretary also claimed the flooding of the ferry named Pulau Pinang was “very painful” for Penangites to endure.

“The symbolism shows that MCA can never be trusted to run PPC and should never be given an opportunity to run a government ever again.

“For they will eventually sink everyone together with them,” he said.

Lee called on the party to resign all their positions on the PPC.

“If MCA has any dignity left, they must resign all their positions on the PPC and lobby the federal government to hand over all management of the ferry services to the Penang state government,” he said.

Lee warned MCA risks proving that the party does not care for Penangites and are only interested in gaining position if they fail to do so.

Last Saturday, several images circulating on social media showed a ferry named Pulau Pinang in dilapidated conditions and flooded with water.

Former minister and two-term Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng then shared those pictures on his social media accounts and chided Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong over the shutdown of Penang historic ferry service.

However, Wee in a Facebook post later refuted claims that the sinking ferry was a direct result of shutting down the ferry services, and instead pointed out the ferry in question was already out of operation since 2019 and was sent to the Bagan Dalam dockyard. - Mkini
