Heavy rain, strong winds damage Tanjung Sedili MMEA office
KOTA TINGGI: Heavy rain and strong winds around the Kota Tinggi district caused damage to the Tanjung Sedili Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) office here.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said that the roof, ceiling and several windows of the agency's office in Tanjung Sedili were damaged at about 3.30pm on Friday (July 23).
"The heavy rain and strong winds around Tanjung Sedili also damaged an MMEA boat that was in the process of being repaired.”
He noted, however, no injuries were reported following the incident.
"The operation centre in Tanjung Sedili will still be carrying out its operations.
"We would also like to remind the maritime community to take precautionary measures and ensure that they are equipped with the necessary safety equipment at sea during bad weather," he added.
Separately, a total of 20 trees around Tanjung Sedili were also uprooted due to the weather.
Kota Tinggi Fire and Rescue Department chief Azman Jantan said that the department received information about the incident at 4.42pm on Friday (July 23).
"Fourteen Fire and Rescue Department staff members were deployed to the scene at Pekan Sedili, heading towards Kampung Sedili Besar after receiving the distress call.
"The trees had been felled and removed from the road with assistance of the Kota Tinggi local council, Civil Defence Force (APM) and 20 members of the public," he said in a statement.
He added that the operation ended at 7.14pm and no injuries were reported. - Star
