It’s a trust, says Ismail Sabri as he pledges to give his best

 

PUTRAJAYA: The Deputy Prime Minister’s post is not a privilege but a heavy responsibility that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has pledged to shoulder with humility, sincerity and dedication.At a time when the country and her people are facing challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic and to ensure the success of the National Recovery Plan, he said the position was a trust and that he would do his best for the people.

“I pray for all of us, irrespective of religion, race or political affiliation, to come together to bring Malaysia to greater heights and seek a brighter future,” he said.

Thanking Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Ismail Sabri said he was grateful for his appointment.

“I would also like to express my appreciation to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and to the party leadership for their support.

“I would also like to thank Members of Parliament, leaders of political parties and the people of Malaysia,” he added.

The Prime Minister had announced Ismail Sabri’s appointment to the No. 2 post earlier yesterday, adding that he would also retain his current portfolio as Defence Minister.

Ismail Sabri, 61, was appointed Defence Minister in March last year when Perikatan Nasional took over the country’s administration.

The seasoned politician had served in various capacities under the Barisan Nasional government, including as minister for Rural and Regional Development, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, as well as Youth at various times.

The Temerloh-born Ismail Sabri is also one of Umno’s three vice-presidents.

He has served as the MP for Bera for four terms since the 2004 general election. - Star
