PETALING JAYA: More states are showing positive progress in the battle against Covid-19 and have the potential to transition to Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Without naming the states, the Prime Minister said they looked set to meet the criteria that would allow them to transition to the second phase soon.

“Aside from the five states that have transitioned to Phase Two of the NRP, there are other states that are showing good developments and have the potential to achieve the three threshold value indicators in the near future,” he posted on Twitter yesterday, his first communication to the public since he was hospitalised on June 30.

Muhyiddin tweeted this after chairing a National Security Council meeting via video conference from the hospital to discuss the latest developments in tackling Covid-19.

“This (discussion) also included the enhanced movement control order that is being enforced across districts in Selangor and 14 localities in Kuala Lumpur, as well as observation reports from each state under the NRP,” he added.

The five states that have transitioned to Phase Two starting yesterday are Perlis, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang and Terengganu.

The three indicators are the number of daily Covid-19 cases dropping to below 4,000; bed usage in intensive care unit wards being maintained at a “moderate” level; and 10% of the population being fully vaccinated.

Muhyiddin hoped the pandemic would remain under control in the country and that current immunisation rates would be stepped up following the delivery of more vaccine doses from other countries.

“I would also like to express my appreciation to volunteers, NGOs, political parties, the private sector and the general public who came forward and assisted Malaysians who need help, aside from the aid that is also channelled by the government,” he added. - Star
