A record 592 Covid-19 deaths reported, crossing 20,000 mark
PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported a record 592 Covid-19 deaths yesterday, with 88 brought in dead, according to the COVIDNOW website.
This brings the total number of deaths to 20,419.
The number of fatalities, usually issued by the ministry as part of the daily update on the number of cases, was omitted yesterday evening. The latest number was published in the COVIDNOW website and updated as of 11.59pm last night.
The ministry also reported 239,351 active cases. This number includes 1,272 patients being treated in intensive care with 724 requiring respiratory assistance.
In addition to those in ICUs, 199,487 (83.3%) are under home quarantine, 25,595 (10.7%) are at quarantine and treatment centres and 12,997 (5.4%) have been hospitalised.
Malaysia also saw 258,929 vaccine doses administered yesterday.
With this, 72.7% of the country’s adult population is now fully vaccinated, with 90.9% of those over the age of 18 having received at least one dose of a vaccine.
In the statement released yesterday evening, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced there had been 19,550 new Covid-19 cases as of midday, bringing the total number of infections to 1,960,500.
There were also 21,771 recoveries, bringing the cumulative number of those discharged to 1,700,733. - FMT
