Covid-19 deaths (Sept 16): Another 422 fatalities, death toll crosses 22,000


 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry's Github data repository reported a total of 422 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Sept 15), bringing the cumulative death toll to 22,009.

This is the third-highest reported deaths on record in a single day.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 21.80 percent or 92 died even before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

A total of 195 out of the 422 reported deaths happened in the last seven days. Five were from yesterday.

The rest were older than a week due to backlog.

An average of 308 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days. The seven-day average is 407.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 116, making up 27.49 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Kedah (79), Sabah (71), Johor (46), Penang (37), Perak (21), Kelantan (16), Kuala Lumpur (11), Pahang (10), Sarawak (5), Perlis (4), Terengganu (4) and Malacca (2).

No new deaths were reported in Negeri Sembilan, Labuan and Putrajaya.

As of yesterday, there were 225,590 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 9.28 percent compared to the 248,676 active infections a week ago.

Previously, the Health Ministry released deaths statistics together with the number of new Covid-19 cases in the evening. This had since changed.

Deaths statistics are now released the next day at midnight. - Mkini
