Booster dose will not affect fully vaccinated status: Health minister

COVID-19 | Individual vaccination status will not be affected whether one accepts or refuses the booster dose, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.

He told a press conference today that the government is not making it compulsory for any vaccine recipient to get a booster or third dose, but only highly recommends it.

"The booster dose, or lack of it, will not affect your status of being fully vaccinated," he said when answering a question from a reporter.

"It is not mandatory to accept the booster dose. But we will offer it to certain groups, starting with senior citizens, frontliners, and those who are immuno-compromised to get their third vaccine dose.

"We will not force, but we highly recommend them to come forward and get their booster shot after six months, because we believe they will be experiencing some waning immune response."

Khairy also told the presser that adults who are yet to register to get immunised against the coronavirus would be able to book an appointment through MySejahtera soon.

According to him, users can do this by accessing the app's Helpdesk feature.

"For those who have yet to get vaccinated and they want to get it, they can get an appointment through MySejahtera.

"I understand that there are (people who want to get vaccinated), but when they call the nearest health clinic, some do not answer their phones," he said.

Meanwhile, on transferring a dependent's vaccination certificate from MySejahtera account, Khairy said those registered as dependents must first be removed from the main account.

"When the dependent's status (in the main account) is cancelled, then only their new ID (identification) can get the vaccination certificate automatically.

"They must cancel the dependent status first from the first account. Many had created a new account (for their dependents), but forgot to cancel it in the main account." - Mkini
