Govt ends Inland Revenue Board CEO's contract
The government has ended the contract of Inland Revenue Board (IRB) chief executive officer (CEO) Sabin Samitah.
Utusan Malaysia quoted IRB as saying that the shortening of Sabin's contract was mutually agreed upon so that he can "venture into other fields of his interest".
He will be replaced by IRB deputy CEO (Tax Operations) Mohd Nizom Sairi.
Sabin's tenure saw the IRB doggedly pursuing tax claims against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his family members.
This included a bankruptcy notice against the Pekan MP for allegedly failing to pay RM1.69 billion in tax arrears.
Najib, who is challenging the bankruptcy notice, had criticised the IRB.
He had lodged a police report alleging that the tax arrears against him was deliberately miscalculated due to political reasons.
Part of the tax arrears was on the billions of ringgit he received which investigators said were misappropriated from 1MDB but Najib claimed it was an "Arab donation".
