Interstate travel monitoring, enforcement to be enhanced - police

The police’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) will be enhancing monitoring and enforcement to ensure smooth traffic following the lifting of restrictions to allow interstate travel from Monday, Oct 11.

Bukit Aman JSPT deputy director Mohd Nadzri Hussain said monitoring and enforcement will begin in earnest this Friday.

He said this is as the build-up of traffic is expected due to the long weekend in conjunction with the celebration of Maulidur Rasul - Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

Nadzri said patrols would be intensified by monitoring teams.

"JSPT returns to normal (duty). Previously, our emphasis was on roadblocks. However, roadblocks have been abolished and all personnel and traffic officers have returned to normal duty.

"(Traffic volume) has increased. However, the situation is under control. No reports at all of traffic jams and other related issues. But we are ready to conduct patrols on the main highways," he told Bernama today.

Nadzri said JSPT has also started conducting Op Lancar nationwide, from yesterday.

He said the operation to ensure smooth traffic flow would continue until the coming Monday.
