PH squabbles show they only want to grab power, says Fadillah

GPS chief whip Fadillah Yusof said the opposition parties had no interest in Sarawak’s wellbeing.

PETALING JAYA: The recent attacks on DAP Sarawak head Chong Chieng Jen by PKR and PSB prove that certain parties are more interested in their “respective power grabs” rather than the wellbeing of Sarawak and its people, said a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader today.

“These people have no qualms about accepting political frogs that keep jumping in and out endlessly,” said Fadillah Yusof, chief whip of the ruling GPS. “They argue endlessly about who gets what and how to share the spoils in their aim to take control of Sarawak.

Fadillah’s statement comes after PSB president Wong Soon Koh yesterday hit out at Chong for seeming to have a lack of ambition when saying that Sarawak needs strong opposition in the state legislative assembly to rein in GPS’ spending.

Fadillah said he was also referring to PKR’s various statements against DAP over the allocations of state assembly seats at the coming Sarawak state elections.

He said the “political instability and incompetence” shown by these groups of people since the 2018 general election had a negative effect on the country’s development.

In contrast, Fadillah, who is also federal works minister, highlighted the achievements of the GPS ruling coalition in the opening of the fully toll-free Pan Borneo Highway. The state government has also protected Sarawak’s rights and its lands by buying back the Bakun Dam from the federal government in 2017.

“Let us not be disturbed by those bickering and disunited groups who are incompetent and are only interested in grabbing power but have no clear plans for Sarawak,” he said.

The Sarawak elections will take place on Dec 18, with early voting set for Dec 14. Nominations are on Dec 6. - FMT
