Rope in Pejuang, Muda and Warisan - Amanah grassroots tell Harapan
A group of divisional Amanah Youth chiefs is pushing Pakatan Harapan to rope in Pejuang, Muda and Warisan under a "big tent" approach following the coalition's lacklustre performance in the Malacca state election.
The Amanah Youth chiefs, including Zulhafiz Zulkifli (Lembah Pantai), Hafizzuddin Razian (Kepong), Mohd Nur Fadhil (Bandar Tun Razak), Sheikh Khuzaifah (Bukit Bintang) and Haripra Lazuardi (Batu), said the "humbling defeat" in the Malacca polls should serve as a "hard lesson" for the Harapan leaders.
"Several early post-mortems indicate that the low turnouts and the multi-cornered fights in the majority of the Malacca state seats have benefitted BN and in some cases, PN.
"A significant percentage of Malay voters opted for PN instead of Harapan as the alternative for BN.
"We urge Harapan leaders to set aside personal resentment and to adopt a pragmatic approach by working with Pejuang, Muda, Warisan and other like-minded parties for a bigger tent of a united opposition to avoid a recurrence of humiliation in the forthcoming 15th general election," the Amanah Youth chiefs said.
They stressed that it was less about personal consideration and that the focus should be on the country's future.
"The people of Malaysia deserve a competent lineup of people-centric leaders to unite and steer the nation back in the right direction," they said.
BN won 21 out of 28 seats in the Malacca polls on Nov 20, securing a two-thirds majority.
Harapan only won five. DAP and Amanah saw their seats halved from eight to four and two to one respectively while PKR, which had three seats, was wiped out.
PN won two seats, both of which were picked up by Bersatu. - Mkini
