The cops know where I am, says Rewcastle Brown
PETALING JAYA: Clare Rewcastle Brown is puzzled by the Malaysian police, who have called on those with information on her to come forward.
The Sarawak Report editor also wondered what more the police wanted from her as they had contacted her in the past.
“If they hope someone will ring up with dirt about me, they will be disappointed as I live a very boring but happy life.
“They should focus on crooks who are stealing from Malaysia,” she told FMT.
Rewcastle Brown said the police had texted her directly in the past and the authorities knew “all there is to know”, including details on her whereabouts.
“So they could pick up the phone and call me, and I can inform them,” she said.
Bukit Aman CID chief Abd Jalil Hassan had made a plea to the public earlier today for information on Rewcastle Brown, who had failed to appear in court to face a charge of defaming Sultanah Nur Zahirah of Terengganu.
It came a little over a month after a warrant of arrest was issued against her.
She is facing a charge under Section 500 of the Penal Code for making disparaging statements against the Sultanah in her book, The Sarawak Report – The Inside Story of the 1MDB Expose.
Sultanah Nur Zahirah, who filed the suit on Nov 21, 2018, claimed that the statements could be taken to mean that she was involved in corrupt practices and interfered in Terengganu’s administration, and used her status to influence the establishment of the Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA), which later became 1MDB.
She claimed that they also misconstrued her as having helped fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, the alleged mastermind in the scandal.
But Rewcastle Brown, who is based in the UK, said she had previously explained she could not make herself available.
“I feel sorry for the police who have been ordered to reopen a case which had been NFA-ed in 2018,” she said, referring to the acronym for “no further action”. - FMT
