FIC ‘elite team’ of lecturers ensures students get the best education

MIRI: Fajar International College (FIC) places great emphasis in building a strong, dedicated and highly qualified lecturing team, holding fast to providing the best quality education to students.

As a higher education provider that has built up its brand-name, Fajar International College, is not only proud of its recognised and widely accepted programme, but also its ‘elite team’ of lecturers who are experienced, qualified and who always place the needs of the students at heart.

The college CEO Dr Peter Tham said in a press statement that the college believed that in order to give the best to the students in moulding their future career and personal growth, a team of experienced, qualified and dedicated lecturing team played vital roles.  The students can greatly benefit and this is especially true for the college’s core programme, the Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health (DipOSH). FIC has built up a strong elite team to provide the best training to aspiring safety officers who choose FIC to earn their recognised qualification.

He said this was a very important factor as FIC’s DipOSH was the only one recognised by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), UK.

Under the leadership of Dr Peter Tham and the principal Ricky Walter Brooke, students can confidently expect to gain from this team to impart their knowledge and industrial know-how. The team includes a well known practitioner, Dr Julian Jolly, the chairman of Miri Occupational Safety and Health Practitioners Society (MOSHPS) as consultant lecturer.

Dr Julian Jolly has a PhD in Physical Fitness Science, Canterbury University, and a holder of NEBOSH NGC, UK. He is also a prominent SHO trainer with NIOSH Train-The-Trainer certification.

He is also a specialist member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management, UK and an Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

The other four members in the team are Dr John Sammy (DBA, MBA, BBA, B.OSH,MMIM) who also holds the NEBOSH IGC, NIOSH Train-The-Trainer certification. He is a DOSH approved OSH trainer, with vast experience in the field of OSH and management.

Henry Balang is a holder of MBA, BSc (Hon) in Safety, Health & Environment, University of Greenwich, UK, NEBOSH IGC. He is well-versed in OSHE-related legislation and has held various posts including manager (HSE) and head of Safety for the last 15 years. He also holds a Diploma in Teaching from Batu Lintang Teachers’ Training College and an approved NEBOSH tutor.

James Empungan Billy Benson, is a graduate  of Occupational Safety and Health from USA, holding a Diploma in Medical Assistant from Kolej Persekutuan Para-perubatan Malaysia. He has served as senior HSE officer with international oil and gas companies and also a former trainer at MRC Miri Chapter.

Simon Saibi is a lecturer of the Executive Diploma in OSH programme, completing his BSc (Hons) in Health Care, University of Exeter, UK, holding a Diploma in Public Health Inspector from The Royal Society of Health, UK, Certificate in Personnel Health Management from the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, and also a Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Malaysia.

He has served as an Environmental Health officer with the state Health Department for more than 10 years.
