Art Student in China Gets In Trouble For Placing Dildo Atop Flagpole

An art student in China is generating a lot of buzz for pulling-off risky stunts in public places including placing a dildo atop a university flagpole. Central Academy of Fine Arts student Ge Yulu is no stranger when it comes to creating art projects that are provocative and daring.

However, this does not mean Ge is getting away with these without receiving some disciplinary actions. According to Shanghaiist, the 27-year-old is being disciplined by the the arts academy on the grounds of “upsetting order” on campus.

Of course, Ge’s stunt didn’t just make a provocative statement — it also took hours before campus security was able to remove his infamous dildo from the flagpole. In fact, reports mention that it actually took several days before his daring art project was even noticed.

However, this isn’t Ge’s only daring art project — he previously stared right in front of a surveillance camera that’s stationed atop an electrical pole. Another of the 27-year-old’s bold art projects included a placard of his name that was placed on a nameless street.

The project even convinced web maps such as Baidu and Amap to officially refer to the street as “Ge Yu Lu” as well, according to SCMP. What’s more interesting is that the word “Lu” means road in China, so the student’s name actually makes it more appropriate as a street sign.

Since local law states that individuals aren’t allowed to place street signs, Ge’s placard was ultimately removed by government officials. Regardless of the outcome, the Chinese art student certainly gained his moment of fame while it lasted.

One can only wonder what kind of bold statement Ge is going to incorporate in his next art project. Given Ge’s previous daring attempts, locals might have to expect the next one to be just as risque.
