KOTA KINABALU: A 41-year-old man has been arrested for molesting his grandniece at an apartment in Sepanggar.
The man was said to have entered the room where his 13-year-old grand-niece was sleeping together with her three-year-old brother.
It is learnt the girl had woken up when she felt something heavy on her and a hand touching her back as if trying to hug her.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Assist Comm Habibi Majinji said the girl woke up after she felt a hand fondling her back at about 6.45am on Sunday (Dec 9).
The girl’s parents were not home at that time as they had gone out early to sell goods at the Gaya Sunday Market here.
He said she took her brother and ran out of the house, crying, following the incident.
“A neighbour saw the crying girl and asked what happened, and she told the neighbour about the incident,” ACP Habibi said.
He said the neighbour helped the girl lodge a police report after that.
“We believe the suspect was either high on drugs or alcohol when the alleged incident took place,” he said.
ACP Habibi said the suspect was nabbed at about 7.53am the same day, and is being kept at the Kepayan lockup here to facilitate investigations.- Star
