Facing charge, Siti Kasim claims police chief trying to jail her

Lawyer Siti Kasim is expected to be charged in court next week for showing her middle finger to an audience at a forum in 2016.

Revealing this in a statement yesterday, Siti also alleged that the charge to be brought against her was the doing of a senior police officer, who "has been trying to put me behind bars".
She said that a police inspector called and told her yesterday that there was instruction to charge her under Section 509 of the Penal Code over the incident in Shah Alam.
"I have been keeping this quiet but I think I must get this out to the public. I know the OCCI Selangor (Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief), named Fadzil, has been trying to put me behind bars.
"I do believe he orchestrated the raiding into my house with the ridiculous mind-blowing kidnapping charge. If not because of the unplanned video that went viral, I would be facing a charge for a capital offence. Kidnapping carries the death penalty!," she said in the statement.
Siti was referring to Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat, and a police raid on her house in Kajang, in June last year. The raid saw Siti arrested for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties after police had taken away a woman she had been sheltering at her home.
In the Sept 5, 2016 incident, Siti had allegedly showed her middle finger to an audience at a forum on Act 355 held at Karangkraf Complex in Shah Alam.
This allegedly happened when she went to the forum and started to speak against enforcement of Syariah laws, which was received with jeers from members of the audience.
'Order came from AGC'
The lawyer also alleged that Fadzil wanted to get at her because "he is an Islamist who hates my guts".
"How I know this, you may ask... I have evidence of it, of course. Why does he want to get me, you may ask again... well... I was told he is an Islamist who hates my guts.
"And the Islamists are out to get me by hook or crook. I am keeping quiet no more and I will fight this and I will make sure anyone who is abusing their powers will get their just punishment," she said.
Siti also questioned how the Attorney-General's Chambers had allowed the charge, which she described as "frivolous", to go on.
Meanwhile, Fadzil, when contacted, said police have received the order from AGC to press charge against the lawyer since April last year.
He said police, however, had put the matter on hold, as they were occupied with preparations for the 14th general election.
Fadzil said the case was further put on hold as police received another case involving Siti over the Kajang incident.
"There are three investigation papers opened in the Kajang case. And we planned to press all the charges together; (we are) waiting for further instructions from (AGC office) in Putrajaya.
"But since there was yet to be a decision on the Kajang case from the AGC, I decided to continue with the (middle finger) incident first as the order from AGC still stands," he said.
On Siti's allegation that he was trying to put her behind bars, Fadzil said Siti as a legal practitioner should know better about the judicial process.
"She is a lawyer and should know the process of the law. So, (she should) seek for a fair trial.
"She can prove (in court) if she is not guilty," he said. - Mkini
