SEREMBAN: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan must explain the source of income that enabled him to buy an RM10mil apartment in London when he was the Negri Sembilan mentri besar in 2008, says Dr S. Streram (pic).
The Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Rantau by-election also called on Mohamad to clear the air over a recent viral video of a luxurious house in Seremban which purportedly belonged to him despite Mohamad previously claiming to not owning a house in the city.
“How did he get the RM10mil? Why didn't he go through a proper channel such as a bank?
“Can he prove to us how he managed to obtain the money and what his source of income was?” said Streram.
He also questioned a statement by Mohamad saying that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney-General's Chambers had already cleared him for using a moneychanger to transfer the funds to London instead of going through a bank.
“He says the MACC has let him loose but I think the MACC also has to come out with an explanation now.
“How can the moneychanger involved be charged and asked to close shop,” said Dr Streram when met by reporters in Kuala Sawah near here on Monday (April 8).
The anaesthesiologist said that Mohamad, who is also the Barisan Nasional candidate in the by-election, should clear the air about the luxury house in Seremban.
“I have seen pictures and videos of the house but I don't know whose house it is.
“But it has been broadcast through the footage that it's supposed to be his house.
“He’s (Mohamad) been saying all along that he forgot to buy a house in Seremban because he was too busy working but at the same time, he managed to buy an apartment in London.
“Where is he staying now? Is it in a rented house or his own house? Let him come clean because this involves his character,” said Dr Streram, who is also Rembau PKR division deputy chief.
The Rantau polling day on April 13 will see Dr Streram squaring off against Mohamad, who is Umno’s three-term Rantau assemblyman, as well as independent candidates R. Malarvizhi and Mohd Nor Yassin.
Early polling will take place on Tuesday (April 9) with a total of 110 of the 118 early voters in the Rantau state by-election expected to cast their ballots.- Star
