KUALA LUMPUR: A group of Barisan Nasional-linked NGOs wants the Foreign Minister and Attorney-General to be sacked over the attempt to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd).
The group claimed they have lost trust in Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and Tommy Thomas.
“Both of them don’t have the conscience to uphold the interest of the Federal Constitution.
“The two incidents (Rome Statute and Icerd) had clearly gone against the norms of the Malaysian way of life and also the Federal Constitution,” said former Umno Federal Territory Youth chief Mohd Razlan Rafii.
Take action now: NGO members handing the memorandum urging the sacking of Saifuddin and Thomas to an officer (in blue shirt) of de facto law minister Datuk Liew Vui Keong in Kuala Lumpur.
He had earlier led the group in handing over a memorandum on the matter to the government at Parliament yesterday.
He said “polemics” pertaining to the Rome Statute would not have been raised if the government did not rush through the decision to ratify the convention.
“The government should have owned up to this mistake and not blame it to any quarters because the ones who raised this issue are sincere (on the interest) for religion, race and country.
“In future, we advise the government to be more cautious and not follow the culture and mindset of the west until our values that are filled with good manners and multi-racialism are eroded,” he said.- Star
