IPOH: A man has been arrested after his wife lodged a police report saying he abused her and their two children.
Shahrul Rizal Abdul Hamid, 36, pulled the hair of his 13-year-old daughter at their home in Taman Seri Emas, Kuala Kangsar on May 15.
His wife tried to stop him but was slapped on her left cheek. He then dragged her by the hair and slammed her head into a chair.
Kuala Kangsar OCPD Asst Comm Razali Ibrahim said, upon seeing this, the frightened child ran into a room, with her father following.
There, he started to throw clothes at her.
"When the mother again tried to stop the suspect, he twisted her left hand, punched her in the stomach, hit her head against the wall, dragged her across the floor and started choking her.
"Worried of her mother, the child screamed and asked the suspect to let her go," said Razali.
He said the unemployed suspect and his wife were in the middle of divorce, adding that the incident had traumatised the wife and their two children.
"His wife lodged the police report on May 16.
"Based on our investigation, the suspect has a anger issue and a long history of abusing his two children, aged 13 and five. They have four children together, including one adopted child.
"The victim has received treatment at Hospital Kuala Kangsar.
"We arrested the suspect yesterday (May 16) and he is being remanded in court," added Razali.
The case is being investigated under Sec 31 (1) (a) Child Act 2011 and 323/326a Penal Code.- Star
