Otai Reformasi says not bound to parties, to proceed with transition protest
Otai Reformasi, a grouping of veteran reformasi activists, will proceed with plans to protest and demand for a May 2020 transition of power despite PKR president Anwar Ibrahim calling for everyone to respect the agreement reached by Pakatan Harapan last night.
The group's secretary Abdul Razak Ismail (above) said despite being pro-Harapan, they were not bound to any party leader.
"Otai Reformasi is an independent NGO," he told Malaysiakini.
"Our discussions with allied NGOs is to plan for mobilisation and the numbers that will go to the streets from each NGO," he added.
Last night, a meeting that was supposed to determine when Anwar would become the next prime minister ended with Dr Mahathir Mohamad being entrusted by Harapan to decide on the matter after the Asia Pacific Economic Conference (Apec) summit for which meetings will conclude in November.
Following this Anwar urged PKR and others to respect the unanimous decision.
However he conceded he can only issue orders to his own party.
Meanwhile, Selangor PKR Youth chief Najwan Halimi said his side will respect the Harapan presidential council's decision.
"Yes, our stance is as stated by the president (Anwar)," he said when contacted. - Mkini
