Otai Reformis sabotaging Harapan with 'street protest threat' - Bersatu leader
Pro-Anwar Ibrahim group Otai Reformis is being seen as sabotaging Pakatan Harapan by saying they might go on the streets again over the transition issue, said Bersatu supreme council member Muhammad Faiz Na’aman.
“This is clearly a form of threat to make chaos in the government and Pakatan Harapan itself.
“It is like an act of sabotage that only benefits the opposition or outside powers who are using this opportunity to take advantage of the future instability,” Faiz said in a statement today.
Earlier today, Otai Reformis secretary Abdul Razak Ismail had said that they still stand by their stance to pressure Mahathir and hand over power to Anwar in May this year, instead of after the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit in November.
This is despite the decision from the Pakatan Harapan presidential council last night to hand over all decisions related to the transition of power to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad after Apec.
He also said they might resort to the "plan B" where they will go on the streets again to urge for the transition of power to occur in May, just as they did in the historic 1998 Reformasi movement.
Faiz said Otai Reformis needs to realise that the protests in 1998 failed to topple the then BN government and without the involvement of PAS, the impact of a street protest would be even smaller today.
On the contrary, the street protest could potentially turn into a riot and incite conflict between races or religions if it spins out of control, Faiz said.
In such situations, he added, there will always be others there to take advantage of the chaos further.
Any groups who profess to be pro any component party or leader in Pakatan Harapan should act wisely, he said, so that those they represent would not have to bear the burden of shame over any vocal misconduct.
“Do not let emotions cause the entire efforts of the cooperation to be in vain,” he said.
The rakyat is already bored of the internal politicking within Harapan which gives a negative image towards the political stability under the coalition's rule, he said.
Anwar, who is PKR president, had also urged earlier today for his party and Harapan allies to toe the line on the coalition decision to let Mahathir decide on the transition of power after Apec.
“I appeal to our friends to respect this decision. In terms of the PKR leadership, I will not allow anyone to attack or condemn the decision,” he had said. - Mkini
