Papagomo says Kedah MB's toddy analogy against critics is rude
Kedah state government's stern action to demolish a house of worship erected on state land was appropriate, but Kedah MB's toddy analogy in the latter's statement against MIC and DAP leaders over the matter was rude, says Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris.
Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had suggested MIC and DAP leaders, who criticised the state government over the demolition of Sri Raja Muniswarar Temple in Kuala Kedah on Tuesday, were "drunk on the toddy of popularity".
To conclude his statement, Sanusi advised them not to act as if they are "drunk on three bottles after consuming only one bottle".
MIC leaders had responded by calling Sanusi as "insensitive" and "uncivilised".
Azri, better known as Papagomo, said Sanusi should be ashamed of himself over his choice of words, saying that the PAS leader's statement is ill-mannered and cast insinuations on the Indian community.
"Kedah MB should be ashamed of himself as the statement not only reflect that the state government is arrogant, but reflect a Muslim leader who is badmouthing the Indian community.
"I hope Kedah MB could apologise to the Indian community for his remark which is clearly an insult to the Indian community," said the Umno youth exco member in a statement.
He called for Malaysians regardless of race to tolerate each other and reminded that there's no issue which could not be amicably solved between other races.
Azri, however, agreed that the temple should be demolished.
The Alor Setar City Council had demolished the 30-year-old temple in Taman Bersatu, Kuala Kedah, on Tuesday to pave the way for construction of a futsal court. The building had been erected on state land.
Also demolished in the operation were a silat hall and five parking areas.
"I support the action on demolishing temples erected on the government's land. As we know, the temple issue is nothing new, and it happened in almost all states.
"[...] it's appropriate to take a stern action against all illegal houses of worship so that it will not create a conflict in the future which leads to a racial discord as what had happened in Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Selangor in 2018," he said.
The protest outside Sri maha Mariamman temple had resulted in the death of a firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
The coroner's court had ruled that his death was a criminal act. - Mkini
