Slow traffic on major highways as Msians prepare for MCO

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic is slow along the North-South Expressway, particularly in the northern and central regions, Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) said.

A spokesman from MHA hotline said congestion was reported in areas along the northbound lanes of the PLUS expressway from Bukit Lanjan to Rawang South in Selangor, Tapah to Gopeng in Perak, Bukit Tambun to Prai and from the first Penang bridge to Prai in Penang.

This was followed by heavy traffic along the southbound lanes of the same expressway from Juru to Jawi, the Menora tunnel to Jelapang, and Sungai Buloh to Bukit Lanjan.

In the south, traffic is also slow from Pandan to Kempas and from Kempas to Pasir Gudang, Johor.

At the North–South Expressway Central Link (Elite), traffic was moving slowly from Putrajaya to Shah Alam and Shah Alam to Seafield.

At the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), congestion was reported from Bukit Lanjan to Shah Alam.

However, the MHA said traffic is smooth on the Kuala Lumpur to Karak highway and East Coast Highway.

Five states; Penang, Johor, Selangor, Melaka, Sabah - and the three Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan will be put under the Movement Control Order (MCO) starting midnight today till Jan 26.

Another six states - Perak, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan – will be under the Conditional Movement Control Order.

Interstate travels are barred nationwide under these movement restrictions. - NST
