APHM concerned that some private doctors not yet scheduled for vaccination

The Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) has expressed concern that some private hospital doctors and staffers are not yet included under phase one of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

"Some states like Malacca have not commenced vaccination for private hospital doctors and staff but only slated towards the end of the month or in phase two.

"Some of the private hospitals in this state are big economic contributors to the country and state in terms of medical tourism.

"We hope the vaccination programme can be enhanced in some of these states including the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia," APHM president Dr Kuljit Singh (above) said in a statement today.

He added that some smaller towns in Sarawak have also not been included under phase one of the vaccination programme.

Previously, the APHM had accidentally omitted over a thousand private medical staffers from the list of proposed personnel who should receive early Covid-19 vaccination.

Meanwhile, Kuljit said the association hoped that the government will include more private participation in phase two of the vaccination programme, which will commence in 10 days.

They also hoped that the government would give due consideration to their proposal for a private vaccination programme which they said will benefit economic frontliners.

"Economic frontliners" has a broad definition, ranging from those in the service sector such as restaurant servers to those who work in industries important to national revenue such as oil and gas.

At present, some private hospitals have been selected to serve as vaccination centres for the national programme.

De facto Covid-19 immunisation minister Khairy Jamaluddin said members of the public need not pay to be immunised at private hospitals if their appointment was scheduled by the government. - Mkini
