EMCO in several areas in Perak Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak starting June 2

Several localities in Perak, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak will be subject to the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from June 2 to 15, said senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the EMCO involved the Felda Trolak Utara area, Mukim (subdistrict) Sungkai near Batang Padang, Perak; Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling near Jerantut, Pahang; and 11 longhouses as well as SK Stalon in Stalon near Tanjung Manis, Sarawak.

In Sabah, the affected areas are Kampung Kuala Menggatal in Kota Kinabalu, and Jalan Klias 2 and 3, Kampung Klias Baru in Beaufort.

“The Health Ministry (MOH) also confirmed that there was a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases with high infectious rates in the affected localities.

“The implementation of EMCO is to control the movement of residents in these localities and help the MOH detect cases early, and thus prevent the infection from spreading from these areas to other localities,” he said in a statement on the MCO, today.

Meanwhile, the EMCO in 28 mukims in Kota Setar, Kedah, which is scheduled to end tomorrow, has been extended from June 2 to 15 due to the ongoing contagion among the residents in the affected areas.

Ismail Sabri also said that the EMCO in Kampung Pauh Lima, Mukim Banggu and Kampung Pauh Lima, Mukim Gunong in Bachok, Kelantan ended today, a day earlier than scheduled after no more (testing) samples were pending and no new cases have been recorded since May 29.

On the MCO’s standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance operations, he said a total of 754 individuals were arrested for violating SOPs with 746 of them being compounded while eight were remanded yesterday.

“During ‘Op Benteng’ yesterday, 38 illegal immigrants were arrested and seven vehicles were confiscated,” he added.
