  • IGP said directive given to police to ensure better handling detainees in lockups
  • PDRM do not want death in police lock-up, procedure improved lately

including health screening for the suspected individuals’ next of kin

(OSTB : Huh ?? Has this been correctly reported by the Press? Reporter silap tulis kut? Or does the IGP know what he is saying?  Why do health screening for the suspects next-of-kin? Apa connection? If the suspect has stomach pains what is the point of checking if the suspect's brothers, sisters, mother, father, uncle, aunty also had stomach pains? And under what law can the Police force a suspect's next-of-kin to do health screening?)

  • Integrity Commission to investigate police misconduct in lockups
  • public hue and cry over deaths of people detained by police

Suhakam calls for medical teams at lockups

(OSTB : Bad idea lah Suhakam. Takkan you want to station a Doctor at each lockup?)

  • deaths of three young and healthy men in just five weeks
  • raised possibility of torture, violence being used against those detained

three detainees who died were

  • A Ganapathy on April 18
  • S Sivabalan on May 20
  • Surendran Shanker on May 27
police should investigate misconduct and prosecute officers responsible
incidents of torture, ill-treatment of suspects by police
disciplinary proceedings, criminal action should be taken

OSTB : Every country in the world has criminals including violent criminals. The more civilised countries have learnt to question suspects without torture or violent interrogation. They can still solve the crimes and also prevent crimes. We can also be more civilised.
